Knowledge Share Description
After long being discarded as weeds or mislabeled as dangerous drugs, poisonous plants are once again catching the attention of the collective imagination. Why? They are our ancient and wise teachers guiding us to dream our liberated future into being. So gather your courage and make friends with the shadow realm. To truly create anew we have to destroy what binds us. This knowledge share will provide an intro into the lore and alchemy of poison medicine with a particular focus on datura, tobacco, and Catherine’s West African, Taino, and Southern European ancestral lineages.

How to safely interact with poisonous plants without ingesting
An intro to some cultural historical contexts of poisonous plants
A greater appreciation for the role of shadows and destruction in finding personal & collective liberation

Catherine Feliz (they/them/elle) is an interdisciplinary artist and medicine person born & raised in Lenapehoking, a.k.a NYC, with roots in Ayiti, a.k.a Dominican Republic. After almost 10 years of studying and practicing community based herbalism, Catherine is currently sharing their medicine under the self-started project of Botánica Cimarrón.
